Report

Romford aren't champions for nothing.  Within the first couple of minutes we knew we had a tough game ahead of us.  Their wingers both had tremendous pace and tight ball control, they had a big centre forward with a massive boot, and at the other end they were well organised and strong.

However following the initial onslaught we settled in to the pace of the game and started to get the better of the play.  We did miss a pretty much open goal opportunity, but shortly afterwards Callum netted to give us a well deserved lead.  We hung on to this lead until about half way through the second half, but not without a few scares.  A couple hit the woodwork and Lee had to pull off a great save to keep us in there.

The pace was relentless and the effort started to take its toll.  Subs were needed as battered midfield and defence needed relief.  However their first goal had nothing to do with our players.  I think the ref was pretty much the only person on the field not to see it as off-side.  They had 2 players on goal and we didn't have a hope.  Still as Al said, that's football.  1-1.

It had to be said that it was coming though.  They had quality and pace across the whole of their attack, and they brought on a huge defender who was very hard to do anything against.  It wasn't long before their winner came. There was a mix-up in defence and they capitalised on it.  No arguments about the goal, but on overall run of play I feel we deserved more out of the game.  At least the champions knew they had been in a game.

Well done to Tommy for his PoTM award, and special thanks to Dave for running the line under difficult circumstances.

So that's it - another season (our 4th) comes to an end.  Al has asked me to thank everyone for their support, and especially to say how very proud he is of "his warriors".  I think we'd all agree with him on that.

I am sure all parents and players will join me in thanking Al for his fantastic efforts this season.  He took over the management in less than ideal circumstances, and has built upon the excellent foundations he supported Lee in building in previous seasons.  The club could have leaked players or folded altogether, but that hasn't happened.  Far from it.  Thank you Alan.

This is your correspondent signing off for the last time this season.  Thanks for listening - I've really enjoyed it.
